Your Safe Haven for LGBTQIA+ Cancer SUPPORT

and Gender Transition GUIDANCE

Building Resilience,

Embracing IdentiTY

At Umbrella Transition Support, we understand that navigating life's transitions can be challenging, especially for LGBTQIA+ individuals facing unique experiences. That's why we're here to offer a guiding hand and a supportive peer-led community every step of the way.

cancer support & gender transition?

On the surface, it doesn’t seem like cancer care and gender transition make much sense together. Unfortunately, as queer folks, we statistically have a harder time accessing preventative care and resources to stay healthy. This disparity in care, along with our experience in navigating complex medical systems allows Umbrella a unique point of view in providing peer-led support to those who are experiencing a cancer diagnosis, as well as those who are pursuing or considering gender-affirming care.

Peer-Led Support for Every Journey

where healing and identity meet

  • Both cancer care and gender transition support emphasize the holistic well-being of the individual. They recognize that health is not solely determined by physical factors but also by emotional, mental, and social aspects

  • Individuals undergoing cancer treatment and gender transition often need to navigate complex medical systems. They may face similar challenges, such as accessing specialized healthcare providers, coordinating appointments, and managing medications.

  • Cancer diagnosis and gender transition are both emotionally challenging experiences. Both processes involve coping with uncertainty, fear, and changes to one's body and identity. Emotional support services can help individuals navigate these challenges with resilience and strength.

  • For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, affirming their gender identity is an essential part of their overall well-being. Cancer diagnosis and treatment can sometimes disrupt or delay the gender transition process. Providing support that affirms individuals' gender identities while addressing their cancer care needs is crucial for their mental and emotional health.

  • Support groups and peer networks play a vital role in both cancer care and gender transition support. Being part of a community of individuals who share similar experiences can provide validation, encouragement, and a sense of belonging during challenging times.

LET’S TALK

This 20-minute chat is designed to establish if there's alignment between us before any commitments are made. The primary aim is to get to know your unique story and understand how Umbrella might be able to support you.

Hi, I’m Ash

he/they

I founded Umbrella in response to my own experience with cancer and gender transition. Early in my transition, I had gender-affirming top surgery. During that procedure, my surgeon uncovered a tumor and I was diagnosed shortly after with breast cancer.

What followed was a life-altering experience with cancer, mental health, and gender transition that showed me a new way of interacting with the world around me.

Today, I’m driven to share that experience in order to support others going through similar trials in their lives.

Our voices are needed, now more than ever.
